MacCathain's Weather Machine

A MacCathain Brothers Novel

Irish and supernatural is a combination sure to leave a person swinging from a short rope.

In an alternate 17th Century Ireland where invention is king, 22 year old twin brothers Gus and Fin struggle against famine and the crown, trying to support their fatherless family while avoiding the gallows. Since a fishing accident left Gus blind seven years ago, he has learned to rely on his other senses~and his forbidden special ability. As misfortune would have it, the brothers  follow a little too closely in their absent father's footsteps when they are sentenced to indentured servitude in the colonies for stealing from the Crown's orchards~or so they think.

As a slave ship headed for the new colonies, their airship should be filled with slaves, but is instead filled with Irish who all have special abilities. Separated and marooned on an island far off course in the Caribbean, hunted by pirates and slavers, they struggle to reunite with one another.

Stuck with a confounding woman, Gus's reluctance to use his ability to manipulate the emotions of others will be pushed to its limit. Forced to follow an escaped slave who knows more about the island than he should, Fin struggles to steer the man toward finding Gus. Within a mansion they discover a fantastic machine, supposedly built by their father. Here they learn the horrible truth about why they were targeted to be indentured. They must come to terms with the truth, or face a life of slavery in the fighting pits.
